About the Foundation

The Foundation’s purpose is to encourage educational attainment and excellence for students entering high school who are struggling financially to continue with Catholic/Christian Education programs in the Rio Grande Valley, and Moshi Kilimanjaro in the United Republic of Tanzania, Africa.

The Foundation fosters and seeks partnership with the community, businesses, families, individuals, teachers, and school administrators who share a common interest in furthering educational attainment for qualifying students, who desire to further their relationship with the Lord, and who seek to achieve a level of education that is within the reach of their potential, thereby making an impact on their lives but also on the community they will eventually serve.

The Foundation is committed to supporting students during the four years of high school, grades 9 through 12, who excel in their academic studies each year. The Foundation does not discourage students from participating in non-academic activities like sports or band, but the emphasis that the Foundation puts on academic activities is most important.

The Foundation intends to create an environment that will empower students to develop confidence that will form in them not only a spirit of individual achievement and personal worth but a desire to serve others, especially the under-served members of the community who because of financial difficulties are unable to benefit from a successful high school academic experience.

Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Foundation is to identify high-achieving high school students (or 8th Graders about to enter high school) who are financially unable to sustain a high degree of dedication to their studies and projects. The Foundation intends to collaborate with community organizations and key individuals and businesses, to form a mechanism or system whose function is to identify and enable qualified students and award scholarships so that these students can achieve their full educational potential, and perhaps seek higher education.

Scholarship Qualifications

Scholarships for tuition assistance are to be approved and administered by the Foundation for students who are enrolled or will be enrolled at any Catholic/Christian high school. The Foundation encourages students to maintain the standards set out below, which will be under the purview of the Foundation and school officials designated by the Foundation to assist in the identification of deserving students.

Among the qualifications are the following:

  • A scholarship applicant must be studious and maintain a relationship with the Lord that is expressed by service to others—fellow students, the poor, the elderly, and other persons most in need.

  • A scholarship applicant must maintain a B average or higher—obviously, the higher, the better.

  • A scholarship applicant must demonstrate financial need.

  • A scholarship applicant must demonstrate their commitment to education by submitting an essay detailing that commitment.

  • A scholarship applicant from the United States must provide their or their parents’ W2 tax statements or proof of wages, salaries, or commissions.

These qualifications or requirements are intended to enable the Foundation to:

  • Scrutinize the academic performance of each scholarship applicant.

  • Evaluate or determine the amount of financial support offered.

  • Use information gathered in the process to initiate and develop collaboration with communities, individuals, organizations, or businesses who might be encouraged to participate in the program.

  • Encourage higher education for scholarship applicants, especially in the profession.

  • Promote in the student a zeal for achieving goals and developing an awareness of their place as members of a global society and stewards of the earth’s environment and resources, perhaps by sponsoring monthly sessions where inspirational speakers may make presentations on these and other topics designed to stimulate in the students these high ideals.

  • Provide financial assistance to those families whose resources are so meager as to prevent attendance at a Catholic/Christian high school, with continued support being dependent on each particular student’s maintenance of above-average grades.

  • Build and foster partnerships with the community, businesses, and families who share a common goal in the student’s education.

  • Help students reach their potential, which will positively impact the future of the community and the world at large.
